If your rayon is a blend, make sure it doesn't contain 50 percent or more polyester or it. Drying Process Effects on Rayon Fibers Process air temperature and retention time are two parameters that rayon producers can adjust to produce the highest quality fibers at the highest production rates.

Adjusting the drying time and temperature affects critical characteristics such as fiber color, strength or retention of conditioners. FIGURE 1. • Drying times range from sec (drying of tissue paper) to five months (for certain hardwood species) • Production capacities may range from kg/h to t/h • Product speeds range from zero (stationary) to m/s (tissue paper) • Drying temperatures range from below the triple point to above the critical point of the liquid.

The best way to dry rayon clothes is flat drying or line drying. ■ Never use metal hangers for your rayon clothes, as they get rust spots easily.

*The cross-section of HWM rayon is round. In his book American Plastic, which explores the cultural history of one of today’s most hated materials, American Studies professor Jeffery Meikle describes plastic as a “child of the Great Depression.” Like plastic, the foundations for rayon were laid much earlier — sometime in the mids — but the material didn’t start.
